Kelly Parker lives and works in Los Angeles. She recently received a CCPF grant for GoodExposure, a filmmaking workshop program for teenagers living in Northeast Los Angeles. The grant covers a 26 week long workshop program and the installment of two rocking media labs in the community centers of two affordable housing developments located in Echo Park and Highland Park. SOUTH MAIN, Parker’s first feature was completed during her studies at California Institute of the Arts, where she received an MFA in 2008. The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and has screened at the London Film Festival, Los Angeles Filmforum and IndieLisboa Film Festival amongst others. In 2004 Parker was commissioned by the German Federal Cultural Foundation to create a work for the Shrinking Cities Exhibition and ongoing and artistic investigation into post-industrial decaying urban regions. The resulting short film, Coda Motor City, has traveled with the exhibition to museums and galleries such as, the Kunste-Werke in Berlin, the Pratt-Manhattan Gallery in NYC, Cranbrook Museum of Art and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions.
